Hilarious coming-of-age comedy 1987 will open the 9th Possible Worlds U.S. & Canadian Film Festival at Event Cinemas on August 7th. The Festival showcases the best new independent cinema from Canada and the United States.

Presented by North American travel specialists, Cosmos Tours and run by non-profit The Festivalists, the festival brings 18 new feature films – 9 Canadian, 9 American - to Event Cinemas George Street, August 7th to 17th. Selected titles will also screen in Canberra (August 20th) and Perth (August 22-24).

Ricardo Trogi’s 1987 will open the Festival a day before it opens on Canadian screens. The Australian premiere will be preceded by Opening Night drinks.

The semi-autobiographical French-language comedy charts the tumultuous summer of 1987 for 17-year-old Ricardo, and his hilarious attempts to get laid, get a job and get into bars. Set to a rocking 80s soundtrack and tackling all of the awkward moments that come with being a teenager but wanting to be treated like an adult, 1987 is a laugh-out-loud Quebec comedy that refuses to take itself too seriously.

The 10-day festival includes complimentary drink receptions, a genre movie trivia night and filmmaker Q&A’s. The audience is invited to vote for their favourite films in the World Movies Audience Award, while juries will announce the awards for Best American and Best Canadian Film on closing night. The full line-up will be revealed on Independence Day 4th July. For more information, visit www.possibleworlds.net.au.
