Oscar Winners Barry Levinson, Al Pacino and Diane Wiest Team Up To Film Philip Roth’s Classic Novel

 

Millennium Films has just acquired worldwide rights to “The Humbling,” a new film directed by Academy Award winner Barry Levinson

starring Oscar winners Al Pacino and Diane Wiest based on the classic novel by Philip Roth. Greta Gerwig co‐stars opposite Pacino. The cast also includes Charles Grodin, Kyra

Sedgewick, Dan Hedaya, Nina Arianda, and Billy Porter.

 

“The Humbling” tells the story of an aging actor who has an affair with a lesbian woman half his age at a secluded country house in Connecticut. The relationship takes unusual

turns as people from their past surface and chaos ensues. The film is currently in post‐production and will be available for US distribution when it

is finished.

 

“The Humbling” is a Baltimore Pictures production that continues the collaboration of Levinson and Pacino, who also produce alongside Jason Sosnoff at Levinson’s Baltimore

Pictures. Executive producer is Kristina Dubin. The co‐producers are Gisella Marengo, Monika Bacardi and Andrea Iervolino.

 

Levinson won the Oscar for “Rain Man” and has directed such acclaimed films as “Diner,” “Tin Men,” “Wag the Dog,” “Sleepers,” “The Natural,” and “Bugsy.”

 

Pacino won the Oscar for “Scent of A Woman,” has been nominated for an Academy Award eight times, and has given a number of the most memorable performances in screen history in such films as “The Godfather” series, “Scarface” and “Heat,” “Dog DayAfternoon,” “Serpico,” “An Justice for All,” and “Glengarry Glen Ross,” “Sea of Love” and “Donnie Brasco.”

 

Gerwig’s was nominated for a Golden Globe for “Frances Ha.” Her credits also include “Greenburg,” “No Strings Attached” and “Arthur.”

 

Diane Wiest won the Academy Award twice (for “Bullets Over Broadway” and “Hannah and Her Sisters.” Her credits also include “I Am Sam,” “The Lost Boys,” “The Birdcage,”

“Edward Scissorhands” and “The Purple Rose of Cairo.”

 

Philip Roth is one of the most awarded novelists in American history, with two National Book Awards, three PEN/Faulkner Awards and the Pulitzer Prize to his credit. Among his most notable novels are “American Pastoral,” “Goodbye Columbus,” “The Plot Against America,” “Portnoy’s Complaint,” and “The Human Stain.”

 

Millennium Films is one of the largest and longest‐running independent film companies in the world. The firm develops, finances, produces and distributes approximately 8‐10

films per year and is best known for “The Expendables” series and “Olympus Has Fallen.”
