The shareholders' meeting of German Films took place 29 November, 2013.
The budget for 2014 was adopted at the shareholders' meeting of German Films, presided over by the supervisory board chairman Martin Moszkowicz, on 29 November 2013 in Munich. The business plan submitted by the management foresees a budget for a German focus at the Edinburgh International Film Festival and a presentation of German cinema in New York. The budget for monitoring was also increased.
Germany as a film nation will be a focal point of the Edinburgh International Film Festival, one of the largest festivals in Great Britain, in June 2014. Focus on Germany is set to include the retrospective of a German director, the screening of a silent film, the presentation of German feature fims, documentaries and shorts as well as an industry event for producers. Following in the tradition of the successful film seasons in MoMA, an event is also planned in June in New York to present German films. This appears to be very promising given the number of cinema-goers, journalists and distributors who are interested in European cinema in the metropolis on the East Coast. The budget for monitoring has been increased for 2014 to improve the quality of data about the airing of German feature films on television abroad. The goal is also to achieve a more intensive collaboration with other European countries in order to benefit from synergies.
Another focus for 2014 will be the support of the up-and-coming generation of German film-makers. German Films will cooperate more closely with the film schools, provide information about the range of festivals, and offer more intensive service for young German directors when they are attending festivals. There is also set to be a further intensification of the contacts to those festivals concentrating on the next generation of film-makers.
The Festival of German Films is to be held in China for a second time after celebrating its premiere this year and reaching more than 9,000 cinema-goers in this important growth market. 2014 will also see German films travelling through Brazil, another important market. The film tour PANORAMA ALEMÃO will thus take place for the third time.
The new measures are possible thanks to reduced costs achieved through technological innovations in film subtitling and extensive digitisation of German Films Quarterly (GFQ).
While the German Film Days will no longer be held in Stockholm, a closer collaboration is planned instead with the film festivals in Stockholm and Göteborg. Since the interest and the possibilities for German sales agents and producers to participate in international TV fairs in Asia has noticeably fallen off for various reasons, German Films will be reducing its activities at Asian TV fairs in 2014 and concentrating instead on its own events and festivals.
